Forums - Gaming - Klassic Konsole Nostalgia: Commodore 64

When I consider the fantastic games that were created on a machine with less memory than a PS2 memory card it's really quite amazing. So I'd like to celebrate this fantastic gaming machine by remembering some of the games that occupied far too many hours of my youth when I should have been doing homework:

Paradroid: one of my all time favourite games, simple but challengins, and fun. I don't think I ever finished it, but games weren't so much about finishing or trophies. They were all about the fun.

Pogo Jo: great stuff, the first "platformer"?

Arkon: Battle Chess. I'm sure J K Rowling got her Wizard chess idea from this game.

Impossible Mission: was nigh on impossible, I think I managed to finish it once.

Defender of the Crown: so good it was re-made for PS2 all these years later. PS2 version was fun, but Commodore 64 version was harder, but probably mostly because it had some bugs that made doing some things impossible. I never managed to raid a castle.

Sword of Fargol: My first ever dungeon crawler, really great but so frustrating that every time I managed to get the sword some frikkin monster would steal it off me before I got back to level 1 to escape the dungeon. I never finished this game.

Arkon II Adept: more visually impressive than the original, but I liked the original better.

Gunship: Great helicopter simulation game, I even managed to do an autorotation landing a few times without killing myself. Manged to get a congressional medal of honour for one mission too.

Mr. Doo's castle: so cute and weird

Wizard of Wor: on 2-player mode we spent most of the time trying to kill each other instead of trying to kill the monsters. Inspiration for online multiplayer battles?

So many others I can't remember. What were your favourite commodore 64 games?

Nice picture - cover of Mastertronic's Ninja!

This time I'm not going to mention well known C64 classics, but some other games people usually omit from their lists, possibly because of the lack of exposure:

Hades Nebula

Druid

Rockstar Ate My Hamster

Nebulus

Delta

Gods and Heroes

Nautilus

Captured

Aztec Challenge

Killer Watt

Kenny Dalglish's Football Manager

Anarchy
