Now I know a lot of people are off by the price of this, but I am personally going to get one asap.. because if you buy a lot of games, the pspgo brings a lot of advantages to you in terms of costs.
First, before I present to you my opinion on this, please understand the following.
1. Discussion assumes you do not care about owning a physical copy of your media. This is going to be the only way to buy eventually, but I understand the connection to a hard copy, I love box art, but again, let's just assume that is not the case for the individual in question, if that is you, get a psp-3000, no one is stoping you.
2. Comparisons to the DSi are soley on basic retail prices for supported nintendo accessories/products.
3. You only buy your products new. I have to stress this point because I do not know what plans the PSN will have for games after they've been out for a while, price drops are a sure thing, though, for now lets just assume this analysis is done on entry level costs only.
4. You are purchasing this product for 249.99$. Your respected countries (and I do respect them very much!) have lower dollar values right now that is expected to change in the future, until then I reccomend importing your consoles anyway to stress the point to the hardware companies because the prices are outrageous.
Okay, without further adue...
Multiple sources (just google it, theres thousands) are reporting that sony will price games for the pspgo as follows.
High Profile Games: GT, GTA, Metal Gear Solid, Jak and Daxter, LBP etc...
These games are expected to go for the same price as patapon, around 19.99, possibly less for some (14.99$ Price range).
Low Profile Games: Games like disgaea, 30 second hero, and other assorted niche and indie/cheap developer games that do not make the best use of the hardware (IE: games that have lower development costs) are expected to retail between 7.99 and 14.99(For games like disgaea probably.)
Older games: Probably between 4.99 and 7.99.
Minis: Priced between 1$ and 7$ (to rival the iPhone)
So with that as a price range, lets look at the hardware costs.
PSPgo: 249.99$ RRP
Psp3000: 179.99$ RRP (Here anyway..)
Typical UMD games cost 39.99$, though some go for as much as 49.99$ taking a weighted average towards 39.99 we get an average cost of a UMD game(lets assume all high profile, all new) of approximately 41.99$ (Estimation of course, this will change depending on how many games you purchase at the 49.99$ price point, however i assume only one of your purchases would be around that unless you're like me and like your japanese games..)
Typical PSPgo Store game will hit you for about 19.99$. There's no point including the lower price point games because they were never an option to have on the PSP with the UMD anyway. The best way to compare the two is assume the worse case for the hardware that is coming into play (pspgo).
So.. little chart thingy.
I guess the chart says it all. If you purchase a PSPgo and plan on owning more than 3 games, the PSPgo is cheaper than the PSP3000. Infact, it even becomes much cheaper than a DSi very very quickly.
Thoughts?
