It's simple.

All the boxes are labeled.

They will either say

BR BR BR or
BB RR BR

Yes, this is assuming they aren't just labeled to say BB BB BB or some such idiocy, but we have to assume that, otherwise the riddle doesn't work.

So just pick a hat out of a box labeled BR - it will be either BB or RR.

Actually, this assumes that the solution one hundred percent is not BR BR BR. Otherwise labeling it incorrectly would result in something like BB BB RR, which is not a possible combination.

So.

The boxes will be labeled BB RR BR. Check the BR, which is BB/RR. That leaves RR/BB and BR. If both hats in the BR box are blue, then the box labeled BB must both be red - vice versa if they were both red. The remaining box is BR.

Done!

Yep.  Basically what I was trying to explain without actually typing that much.

use your logic skills to determine that taking both hats out of the boxes is the simplest way to determine whats in the box. since you have logically arrived at a better solution, the question is irrelevant.

But Khuutra, you can't make assumptions. The boxes may be labeled BB BB BB, no matter how stupid that is.

It's logic.

No, they can't be, because then it doesn't work. It has to be set up in such a way that it is deducible exactly what hats are in the box, therefore it's basically like I said in my answer.

too confusing for me man :( however they didnt teach us this yet, so im okay

Okay do it like this.

You got three boxes, they're labeled BB, RR, and BR

BB is box 1, RR is box 2, and BR is box 3.

Step 1. Pull a hat out of box 3.

Step 2. If the hat is red, then box 3 contains two red hats, so go to step 3. If it is blue, then both hats are blue, so go to step 4.

Step 3. If both hats in box 3 are red, and box 1 cannot have two blue hats, then box 1 must have one blue hat and one red hat. Therefore box 2 has two blue hats.

Step 3. If both hats in box 3 are blue, and box 2 cannot have two red hats, then box 2 must have one blue hat ando ne red hat. Therefore box 1 has two red hats.

Is that any easier?

why assume that the labeling on the boxes is even related to hats?
the question doesnt say it...what if they are labeled "Dishes"
