Forums - Microsoft - What's Holding Up Final Fantasy XIV For Xbox 360?

So the main reason Final Fantasy XIV is on hold is because Square Enix prefers text-chat only versus the voice chat?

Well Microsoft better come up with some solution. Better release a USB keyboard with the game of some sort.

Remember that FF XI didn't go to the xbox 360 right away. If I remember correctly, it was a good year or two before it was ported. The same may happen here.

I think the 360 needed to be out for it to get FFXI right away...It was 4 years later when the 360 version came out...

MMO + console = Fail. MMO's need keyboard.

Maybe the PS3 version will support it, remember Unreal Tournament III? The PS3 is capabale of keyboard/mouse support if the developer chooses to impement it.

Yeah. With keyboard support it is playble on PS3 but X360 is different story...

Square got FFXI working on 360..What would stop them from getting FFXIV to work..and from what I hear...It will play almost the same

Not only that but it seems these guys don't know that the 360 already has a keyboard in the form of the Messenger text pad. It works awsome by the way

I'm aware of that. How many games have used the feature though?

It's not game specific...I personally don't know any of them...But it's there...so If SE does not support IN game voice chat..there is the messenger...and besides...the game lacking in game Voice chat on the 360...won't affect it...We have Voice Chat (On Gold) regardless of what the game supports...

final fantasy XIV will never see XBOX360 platformit will desappoint me because i want to be my 10th ps3 exclusive to add in my ps3 library

Voice chat? Is that what he meant by keyboard and mouse support?

I don't think so....MMO's are PC games...so everyone is used to using hot keys and mouses...MMO's have worked on consoles before...so I don't know what the big deal is....An Xbox 360 Gold users will have voice chat even if FFXIV wont have a built in feature...this will be bad for sony....but maybe they will annouce similar  voice chat features like the one's  XBL Gold by then or when the game comes out...

Had a thought about possible reasons.

MMO's require two things to run well - RAM or hard drive space (preferably both). This is due to the streaming nature of online aspects of the game and the need to "lock in" memory. PCs are able to use RAM and hardrive, the PS3 is able to use a harddrive but the 360 cannot due to its fractured SKUs. Similarly to the PS2 launch of FFXI, MS may be looking at a HD/FFXIV bundle, but this doesnt come cheap.

There also may be another solution that involves server based memory allocation, but that involves cross-platform play (Squeenix doesn't want to have multiple server platforms for 360/PS3). This is where the "Live" problem may be occurring.

MMOs are exempt from the HDD rules and the Gold requirments... meaning if you want to play FF11 or 14 on your 360 you would not have to have a disc or have a gold account... you will have to have a HDD that you can install the game on but it's less complicated than installing it on your PC.

thats not true in order to play ff11 on the 360 you NEED the disk in at all times. (i played for the last 5 years and ff14 is my MOST wanted game in my life time)

if it comes on ps3 or 360 ima get it first day i could care a less which system if comes for. (as long as M$ doesnt delay the ps3 version as in ff13..........)

I really don't even see why this is news. Microsoft has an online service that conflicts with the development of an online game for its console.

Say with a straight face that this is not going to resolve itself in about six months. Squaresoft wants the 32 + Million potential subscribers of the Xbox, and Microsoft wants some cash.
