It does a lot more than 360. You get a blu-ray player, the best Japanese HD games as exclusives for the rest of the gen (I want your ability to look into the future!) following the release of FFXIII and GT5 later this year in Japan and the boost in sales they will bring to PS3 there.
With PS3, you also get free online play and all trailers and demos as soon as they are released (don't think so.) instead of having to wait a couple of weeks for some of them if you only have a free, Silver xbox live account instead of spending the $50.00 a year for Gold membership.
Also, you get a console where you can only be said to be unlucky if it breaks rather than knowing that you spent a couple of hundred or more on a system guaranteed to break within three years of purchase if you seriously try to use it as a gaming console as with 360.
Flat out lie

It's not a flat out lie. A very neutral party, I think it was ASCI said they designed the 360 on the cheap to get it into as many homes as possible as quickly as possible and that was why there is so much rrod.
And a lot of my ability to see into the future is based on common sense. Almost all FFs break 2 million in Japan (even X-2) throw two FF VII and X sized FFs on the PS3 in Japan, you will see the console's sales sky rocket to 5 to 6 million while the 360's audience there stands still.
Now a lot of people say, "But everybody that was going to buy a PS3 in Japan for the Final Fantasies have already done so." as a rebuttal to this sentence. However how accurate is that rebuttal? The Japanese people are very smart. Don't you think many of those that wanted FF on the system actually would have waited closer to the FFs release dates when they knew the PS3 would most likely have a cheaper price than its launch price to purchase the games?
