Forums - Microsoft - Its over now! $100 price drop will see the tables turn!

With the elite at the same price of the slim during christmas it is likely that people will still buy the 360 and wii given how the 360 has been advertising heavily the past few years and giving itself an image as the games machine of choice.

The events they've sponsored, giving them away to stars at launch events, and if you watch a tv show that especially comedy that has a gaming machine on display or has them playing games it's almost always a 360.

It's now in the public concious and for a lot replaced the Playstation as the first brand they think of when they think serious gaming.

we can argue value and sales and tech all we want on here but the fact is we all have consoles already. We are all nerds who know about these things and like the rest of the nerds out there we have made our purchase.

The average buyer now doesn't know these things s to get sales of 100mil its going to be little Timmy's mum buying him a present or Suzy buying one because her friends have one and she's tried one at their house. It's the non-hardcore that will bump up the sales and they will chose what they know which is what they've seen. The Wii and 360.

Sony relied on their brand for the PS3 which didn't work out quite as well as expected but wasn't a bad idea. Just executed poorly whereas MS have been outstanding in their marketing of the 360.

People will see the two consoles and will see them at the same price but will see the 360 as a games machine which is what they went into the shop to buy in the first place.

Do the math and figure out how much the PS3 has to outsell the 360 month to month to be able to take it over in sales by the time this generation has ended.

Then take a look at the exclusive titles PS3 has in store.

Then look at the two Halo games coming out this Fall and Spring.

Then take a look at the global economy.

Then please smack yourself in the face and retract the idea that this is a possibility. Millions of gamers weren't waiting for the magic 300 dollar mark to cash in on the PS3. Millions of people wish they had 300 dollars to pay bills.

Tell Susy homemaker that the 300 dollar PS3 is going to be worth more to her than the 199 Xbox 360, especially come Christmas when she has a budget of say 250 dollars to cover her kids, relatives and father, and then when she looks at the games selection for 19.99-29.99 and see there are more Xbox titles in that price range than the entire selection of PS3 software.

I'm not trying to be malicious sounding but sony fans are acting like 300 bucks is now a drop in the bucket and will be available to pick from tree tops. The OP was retarded but so are some of these responses.

If money's that tight in Susy Homemakers household, NO console should find its way under the tree.

Games are pretty expensive too.

If they can afford a $199 console, chances are they can afford the $299 one too.

As it stands, the only certainty in the console wars will be that they'll shortly become very interesting one way or another.

I don't understand where people come in and point out features within the console to be honest. The only thing a mainstream consumer will recognize off the bat what the PS3 is capable of playing is PS3 games and playing Blu-ray movies. The same thing can be said for the Xbox 360, the only thing it is truly shown to do is Xbox Live i.e. Halo 3 and Gears of War advertising and playing DVD movies.

Now that the price of the PS3 is going down at a good price point, $300 is pretty good if the average consumer wants a Blu-ray player but Microsoft is still okay with the recent $300 price point of its Elite model and the $200 Arcade model.
