The full depth an complexity of his character is never shown in the anime (a lot of the important flashbacks are but there is a great deal that wasn't completed at the time of the anime so you really miss a great deal). After having completed the manga a few years ago (with the real ending, not the vague out of place ending from the anime) it becomes very easy to be sympathetic of him.

Hmmm, I might sound "young" or something, but I really liked Light Yagami from Death Note and/or Lelouch vi Britannia from Code Geass. I like watching characters struggling while trying to achieve things that should have never really happened in the beginning.

But I must say, the ending in Death Note was very bad, both in the anime and manga. Seriously, I still can't believe how a random character that appears out of nowhere can take out such a genious so easily. They wanted to end the series as fast as they could.

I am not going to create a maelstrom by naming a character from Avatar. I do not desire to have blood on my hands. However, aside from Avatar, the only other cartoon I watch is The Simpsons. Hm, so I am going to name the only character I can remember from the only anime show I have viewed: Kurumi from Steel Angel Kurumi. 

I kinda liked majin Buu from DBZ.

I also kinda like prince zuko from avatar.

Motoko Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell. I like her look in the manga with black hair and the tv anime as well.

I like Nagato Yuki from Melancholy as well.

Well I like Avatar. Aang and all the characters.

They were just all enjoyable, and seemed to have character to me.

I have to say Kurosaki Ichigo from Bleach (huge surprise, eh?)Seriously, if you're a fan of Anime or cartoons in general, do yourself a favor go watch either his fight with Zeraki Kenpachi or Kuchiki Byakuya from the first story arc. Mind blowing stuff my friends. Plus worst fight music ever "Got to be the center of attraction!" lolwut?
