A couple of FCC reports dating back to May, may have revealed that when submitting the console for testing, Sony provided four units:

the vanilla 120GB retail machine, two variants of a 120GB dev kit model, and a 250GB retail unit.

120gb is plenty of Space for the average gamer. Even though I have a 250gb PS3 fat I don't think I will ever fill it up.
