Forums - Sony - The Slim.. is not really that slim?

If you check the differences between the original Playstation and the PSone slim, as well as the PS2 and the PS2 slim, the shrinkage was dramatic. The PS3 slim, however, doesn't seem so small compared to the fat version.

Leads me to believe that they rushed this one out for competition purposes, and will come out with the much slimmer version in a few years' time.

I agree. It will do pretty much what the DS did and come out with more than one hardware revision, maybe the next price cut?

doesnt  sony now have 2TB memory stick or somthing like that? lets start hype for CECH 3000.....

I've said from the start they're going to have 2 slims. I thought it was obvious since this one came out only 3 years in.

Next slim removes the space heater and shows more of the 'dramatic shrinkage' (albeit to the first iteration, not this one) you were talking about.

Wouldn't doubt a slimer-to-the-slim later, the 360 is a truely strong console, so a rushed version of the true slim version wouldn't be a surprise.

Its not actually a "slim" its a "new look" PS3. According to people who were at GamesCom they said Sony just referred to it as the PS3.

I dunno about "rushed"....let's see how often it breaks.   One thing accounting for the size is that the power 'brick' is still inside the machine, unlike PS2 slimline and notably unlike the 360.

I also think that they will have another, slimmer slimline in 2 years.

You have that backwards. It should read "Unlike the 360 and notably unlike the PS2" It is wiser to compair the PS2 slim to the PS3 slim, rather than compair the PS3 slim to the 360 (non slim). Otherwise, you make yourself look like a fan boy.

I agree. It is SlimMER, but not really, Slim.

There won't be another slim.

Power brick inside and hard-drive means this the slimmer ps3 you can do. Any slimer wouldn't be cost efficient. (the only purpose of the slim line)

The ps2 and ps1 originals were smaller than the ps3. The actual shrink percentage of the ps3 slim was bigger than the previous versions.
