According to the Register who quoted Sony as the slim will have the 45nm Cell

I wonder if they shrunk the RSX chip?

I hope we can get more confirmation.

I see. Im pretty sure the newer Phats run on 45nm processors as well.

I don't think so. The latest I've heard is 60nm with them bringing 45's out for the fall... which is sept so they'd be the slims they were talking about.

So whats that mean, simply less power consumption, or are there other benfits?

Less power means less heat. Less heat means less cooling. Less cooling means less noise. Less parts means less costs. Less = lighter. Those are basically the benifits.
