What they did do several hundred years ago in a situation and time very different to now. Of course you can predict exactly what their reactions would be. This reminds me of the South Park episode where both sides argue that the founding fathers would have supported them.
This is now, they lived back then. Invoking what you think the founding fathers would do doesn't make your argument any more convincing. |
We have had this argument before, and it led nowhere, so we can not having it again ok? :)

No, I don't own a gun, nor would I shoot anyone with it if I did.
Again, how old are you, if you don't mind me asking. I am 40 btw.

the right was because our founding fathers knew the US government would need to be overthrown one day. If they were to be brought back from the dead, they would be shocked that we didn't do it 100 years ago. Today, they would start another revolution, and for it, be called terrorists. |
Today, there aren't tyrannical kings appointed to life long positions; popular opinion and voting makes sure of that. Resorting to violence when there are peaceful methods readily and easily available IS terrorism; the founding fathers were revolting against an oppressive and corrupt style of leadership that was in the hands of one person. The declaration of independence was their only real way of peaceful opposition- after that the guns had to be drawn.
As for our government having to be overthrown one day- I highly doubt that. The text speaks for itself: " a well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state.." The drafters wanted their people to be ready for an attack, not to tell them to overthrow the government. They sorta ruled “overthrowing governments” out with making the whole "treason" thing a crime. :p
Tell me this - what if folks would have showed up at Bush town halls with weapons? I'll bet you my bottom dollar that they'd be decaying in Gitmo or Diego Garcia. Show me once in the past few years where anyone in any party was acting like total jackasses and doing crap like this - tea bagging, showing up to events where the president is with loaded weapons. The Secret Service has a watch list - and even makes sure folks aren't armed - and now, folks are just gonna show up packing heat because they can?
What tools. And motivated to do retarded stuff like this for quick fame and the like. Good luck with that crap.
So, who goes to jail if your gun you brought to a town hall gets taken from you and shoots the president?
What, son, what? New York, New York!!!

I mean, you never saw anyone (not to my knowledge) that carried an assualt rifle to a Bush speech, and nobody really liked him toward the end of his term. I mean, what is it about Obama that people seem to loose their marbles over. His race? His policies? |
It's a combination of both, IMHO. And yes, you never, ever saw stuff like this under Bush's regime. Folks would have up and vanished like it was the rapture. The GOP is really pissed off he won - and hate Dems to no end. They will try stuff on the wall until it sticks. Obama's gonna get tired of all of this foolishness - mind you, we are a war and these stuff will be tolerated just a lil while more - and they are sore losers. I need to send all of them towels to wipe their teary eyes.
They will have dry tear ducts by 2016. Sucks to be them ...
What, son, what? New York, New York!!!

"God forbid we should ever be twenty years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, and always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to the importance of the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty. ... And what country can preserve its liberties, if it's rulers are not warned from time to time, that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to the facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure." --Thomas Jefferson

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

This guy was no where near the president. It was a protest outside, on on public grounds. he did nothing against the law.
Why are people criminals first? I thought liberals always touted innocent until proven guilty? I guess that doesn't count for Republicans.
