I don't own a gun and don't think I need to, however, to remove the right to carry a gun is one step closer to remove the right to own one at all. That's why people fight against it.

Originally US Constitution allowed the right to bear arms to protect oneself from the government. I'm ok with that logic, however, I don't personally feel the need to own one.

From the perspective of the constitution, between an automatic weapon and a handgun, the automatic weapon makes more sense.

The right to bear arms was given to uprise against an unjust government, not to hut or provide personal protection. While those things are well and fine in my opinion, for what the constitution says you need a gun for, the automatic weapon does a much better job then a handgun.

@Superchunk. There is a huge difference in my opinion between the right of free speech and the right to carry assault rifles. One actually has a practical purpose (even if it is sometimes used in ways I hugely disagree with) the other serves no practical purpose (that I can think of at least) is dangerous and in my opinion just plain nutty.

Also the protecting yourself from the government point isn't a valid reason for being allowed to carry guns around, it may be (in my opinion its not, but whatever) a valid reason for owning a gun - but by the time you get around to rebelling against the government I doubt you are going to be too concerned about the law saying you can't carry it around.

Also if I'm not hugely mistaken the original reason for the right to bear arms was to protect not against the government but against the British. If I'm right about that then the second amendment is hugely outdated as the Brits aren't that likely to invade anymore.

Also why does it matter if he is black or not, he's still carrying a fucking assult rifle!

Note: I come from a country with a rather high level of gun ownership and a very low level of gun crime. Its because we have the right to own guns yet have a very sensible culture about them, nobody would even think of carrying any gun around in public. Even the cops aren't allowed to carry guns around most of the time.

This story is a distraction from the real issue. People are loosing health insurance and will die.

The number of people uninsured fell 1.5 million in 2007 (a good thing), and everyone dies.

So what's your point?
