Forums - General - Man carries assault rifle to Obama protest -- and it's legal

@sguy78/dtewi

You two are just spamming this thread now. Take it to your mail, your walls, or the chat room. All your doing is having a public pissing contest. Leave this thread to serious commentary.

I'm not spamming anything. I don't appreciate someone putting words in my mouth to start an argument.

Arizona, where I reside, still has many 'old west' type laws. Being able to carry open firearms anywhere except bars is one of them. So this was perfectly legal and since they were outside, where the president was not, the secret service didn't care.

1. They would never let them inside the same building with the President.
2. If the President was outside speaking those individuals would have been asked to leave or hand them over, peacefully and quietly.

I will answer you dtewi,

The Constitution give the people the right to bear arms. it's very clear. To do so, is doing nothing wrong.

I can't find anywhere in the constitution, even before any amendments, that say it's OK to own slaves. Mind pointing out where it says so?

It may not have been constitutional law, but it was in the law. I was using it to point out sguy's flawed argument, but never mind that now.

I didn't say it was wrong to bear arms, I'm saying that it is mind-bendingly stupid to carry an assault rifle just because you can. No purposed is served, and it rather destroys the public image of owning arms.

dtewi's point isn't wether or not it is legal or part of the constitution, etc.

Just asking if it makes any sense what so ever, and it doesn't.

If you want to protest the President at some rally for any particular view, that's fine. Just do it respectively.

So, was this guy breaking any law, no. Was this disrespectful and over the line, yes.

Same would be to bring a jar that looked like a dead cut up fetus with a label that read 'baby john doe' to protest Obama's stance on abortion. Is it legal, sure, is it the best way to protest, no. Is it disrespectful and over the line, yes.

Personally, I like our gun rights, but I don't think we need assault rifles. If that's allowed, then why not rocket launchers and other missile type projectiles? We have to draw the line somewhere and military grade weapons are definitely over the line.

This guy simply looked like a typical redneck idiot who probably wants to marry his cousin and fish with dynamite.

I agree, I also think there are many things that are mind-bendingly stupid that should not be against the law, or even considered wrong.

One that coms to mind, is playing video game for hours on end. Good thing just because it' stupid, no one wants to take it away from me :)

I had no flawed argument. You are just looking for a fight on the internet that you wouldn't dare do in person. You need to learn some tact.

That's different, unless you think a automatic weapon and a cut up fetus in a jar are equally offensive.

The only way it's in bad taste imo, is if he was implying he wanted to do Obama harm with it. If he is just demonstrating his right, while it's a stupid thing to do, there is nothing wrong with it.

Oh my god, will you quit your damn bitching? Would it make you feel better if I said you were right? Congratulations, you're right, I'm a jerk, I put words in your mouth, and now we can both shut the hell up.
