Forums - PC - Your first computer

I was expecting my brother to buy a word processor with a nice green screen I was actually pretty excited by the idea and had picked out a nice Amstrad WP with a green screen so I was really shocked when he brought in this beautiful smart PC.
I was 10 and learnt everything I could from the Dos Manuals about the computer...even Qbasic was amazing fun.

This is what I can remember of it's stats...

Model - Ambra
386 SX 25Mhz
2 MB ram (which is why I needed to be good at Dos, arranging the memory stacks in the EMM368.sys to get some programs - ok games - to work was both challanging and fun)
Win 3.1 (upgraded to Win 3.11 for workgroups)
Dos 5.0 (later upgraded to Dos 6.0 then 6.1)
15inch VGA COLOUR Monitor.
Mouse (WOW!! Never even used one before..)
40MB Hard disk (we doublespaced it to 80MB)
2.5" Floppy drive
400XL Epson dotmetrix Printer.
It came with Lemmings - loved it.

My First NON- PC computer was an Atari 800XL but we only used it for games and programming in Basic.

It's nice to see I'm not the only Atari 800XL fan here, it was a great machine that lasted till we gave it away a couple of years ago.

First computer, the (quite crappy) expansion for Intellivision.
First true computer: ZX Spectrum
First x86 PC: AMD K6-166, 32MB RAM, 3GB HDD, 16x CD-ROM

I was almost forgetting that after the Intellivision expansion, when I still had at home the Spectrum, the first x86 PC I used before having my own one was an IBM PS/2 with a 20MHz 386... Back then Windows was even more shit than now, but MS Word wasn't bloated yet, actually it was very good.

My first computer specs is Pentium 1 Processor 233MHZ, 128MB Ram, 4GB HDD, Riva TNT 128 32MB GPU, SB 16 Soundcard, CD-Rom, 3.5" Floppy Disk, 14" CRT monitor, Win 98.
That's all I can remember...

Commodore 64 in 1984

I believe my first computer was a Pentium 1 (90mhz) and ran Windows 95. I assume the RAM was 16MB but I don't know. I would play a few games on it like Xargon, Wolfenstein, Blake Stone, Epic Pinball, Jazz Jackrabbit, etc.

After that I had a Pentium 233mhz which I used for years and I primarily played emulators on it. I didn't get a better computer until like 2002 which was a 1Ghz Celeron.

Pentium ? 400 mhz
256 MB Ram
Voodoo 2
20 GB HDD Space
Windows 98

I remember I used to play
Star Wars: Dark Forces II
Final Fantasy 7
Final Fantasy 8
Starcraft
Star Wars: X-Wing Alliance

Among others. Still works, one of my friends uses it.

Pentium MMX 200 Mhz, I know that for sure
I think I had a 6 GB hard drive
Around 128 MB of Ram
And the modem was less than 56k, it was like 40 something.

It was bad ass when it came out.

My first computer, beyond using other peoples Apple IIe or ancient XBOX sized IBMs was a:

Hewlett Packard
733 mhz processor
Windows 3.11 Operating System pre-installed
128 Megs of Ram
500 MB HDD

I used that thing for 8 years.... Struggling along through Win 95 and then 98 and a few Hard Drive Upgrades.  At least I played some amazing games on that thing.  From many of the LucasArts SHUMP titles, Tie Fighter, most of the SIM titles and etc.
