I think they're cutting the price and then announcing the slim. The slim may not have as big a price cut as some think, or perhaps not at all, at first. Slim plus GT5 would move a lot of units this year at $349 or $399.
Slim is intended to boost demand and reduce costs, both of which would move Sony toward profitability. Only if they decide that price cuts will move them toward profitability will they make price cuts to the PS3 -- and only to the extent profitable. I predict slim at $349. Or maybe that's what I hope for.
Edit: yeah, I was talking about prices in the US. 299 Euros may be much more doable than $299.
