Besides, all what the PS3 needs is a $100 pricecut in its 2 models, since it's already by far the best console choice of this generation.

I really don't get why so many people (especially on this site) are so obsessed about a PS3 slim model @ this point, it's still too soon for that, and it could have overheating issues if they rush it out.

If the PS3 is going to be a $299 or $349 version of what we have now (perhaps with a larger HDD) I would be disappointed. Spurring sales with a price cut is very good, and it seems Sony was going to do this with a slim.

If however, it was going to be a fully backward-compatible, memory-card using beast like recent (fake?) ads show, I would be very happy. Price cuts I can live with, but if Sony brought out a far more fully-featured PS3 right after I bought one and them telling me they'd never revisit BC...

I am not sure why anyone cares at all about a "slim" model, there is nothing wrong with the Fat model. If there is no slim hopefully Sony still does a large price cut.

PS3 Slim for 2009 is not crucial, a $100 price-cut is. PS3 slim would do wonders 'cause it would be like a relaunch for the console, specially for Japan. But a $299 PS3 is great all by itself even if it's still the same "fat" model.
