Capcom has been a huge supporter of re-releasing classic Playstation games onto the Playstation Store of the PSP and Playstation 3. While all of the big franchises (Dino Crisis, Street Fighter Alpha and Resident Evil) are already PSOne Classics, many fans wonder if the lesser known Capcom titles will be making their way to the Playstation Network as well. Fortunately, Capcom is apparently committed to granting the many requests from fans, at least when it comes to the Breath of Fire series.
Christian Svensson, the Corporate Office and Vice President of Strategic Planning & Business Development for Capcom, recently hinted at the possibility of Breath Fire III and Breath of Fire IV becoming PSOne Classics. He stated the following at the Capcom-Unity forums:
“Now, if all you want are PS1 rereleases (which play on PSP and PS3), that's something I'm still working on. Games have to be recleared for IP and middleware usage to see if there's any conflicts. No promises, but they're high on my list.”
Breath of Fire III was released for the original Playstation in 1997 (1998 in North America). Three years later, the fourth game in the RPG series appeared on the same system. Although Capcom may be committed to re-releasing the older titles, don’t expect them to develop a new Breath of Fire game anytime soon.
