Forums - Gaming - A question about Mass Effect gameplay.

I found it played very similar to Fallout 3 as well, but always in 3rd person. If you have a gaming PC, play it on that, as the 360 controls, for me, were vastly inferior to mouse and keyboard (indeed, the PC version is better all round). By comparison, I found the 360 pad better for Fallout 3.

I was very surprised by the 3rd person shooter gameplay with rpg-elements. This game is nothing short of brilliant.

I would say it's a RPG with a shooter combat system but it depends on what you consider a RPG.

If a RPG means 40+ skills and indepth costumization then Mass Effect does only have RPG elements instead of being a real RPG.

But for me a RPG is a game that let's you play different roles (personalities) and let these characters grow. And with that definition Mass Effect is more of a RPG then any of those oldschool RPG that let you just level your character to L200. Mass Effect has an interactive conversation system that really allows you to give your character his/her own personality, add the different classes, the leveling and the consequences and you got one of the best RPGs (with shooter combat) currently on the market.

It plays like a shooter if you choose to be a soldier class. If you are an adept, the game plays much differently as you will be using your powers a lot more.

It depends what class you are. As just a soldier, it plays as a shooter, and the cover system isn't good enough to make it great from a gameplay perspective. However, as a biotic, you can do the equivalent of force push, lift and more which make for much more interesting gameplay

are those the only class in the game?

sound cool.

its not much of a shooter, you'll never really aim

its like KOTOR mixed with FF12

both good games, and mass effect is great too

tho its no KOTOR

not even close

Last year's game of the year turned out to be Silent Hill : Shattered Memories (online GOTY was COD 6).  This year's GOTY leader to me is Heavy Rain.
