Forums - Sony - if the 299 price tag is true,can PS3's sell out this holiday season?

@SpartanFX

You do remember that a little game named Metal Gear Solid 4 launched in early June in 2008 right? Hardly indicative of a constant trend. More to the point the 360 also was supply constrained due to the fact that they lost a manufacturer prior to the holiday season the previous year. I have what I consider to be a pretty effective memory, and I actually want to understand the trends rather then just root for one player. So I really pay attention to things such as these.

@DjFlex53

Thank you for the compliment. Members like you are the reason I still post. I know there are few left on these forums that actually value trying to understand the market, and that the current level of debate is more often then not less then conducive to deep though. Still there are some die hard intellectuals on these forums, and it is still worth talking to them even if you have to strain to hear them over the rattling of sabers.

Who knows maybe in six months the tide will swing back the other way, and good discussion will become more of the norm rather then the exception. Anyway all you can do is trudge forward, and do your best.

PS3 price cut will has more effect than X360. X360 price is already cheap. There are lot of gamer wants PS3 but they just can afford it. PS3 future line up looks better than X360. Plus PS3 is more popular than X360 in Japan and Europe. Most casual gamer might choose PS3 over X360 (1st was Wii) as well as PS2 owner. I expect PS3 to double X360 sales until next year if Sony cut the price by $100 if Microsoft didnt counter with another price cut.

well your statement is already invalid, because Microsoft will answer with a price cut.

Imagine PS3 slim+Uncharted2 bundle! (not happening ofc, but it would smash the sales chart:P)

Are you guys really out of touch with reality.  Sony doesn't need hardcore players to run out and buy a PS3 and Uncharted.  They need casuals to buy their system and it isn't going to happen in mass groves.  Look I'm probably buying a PS3 this Christmas after the cut, but you guys seem more and more desperate for something that has proven not to happen.  299 is still too expensive and the economy is still getting worse everday.  Also, none of us will probably have any money after Obama takes it all from us to give to people that don't work and refuse to work.

@chriscox1121

You should probably keep your political commentary to the off topic forums where it belongs. Bringing political propaganda into the gaming forums is nothing less then an incitement to other members. It is nothing less then shallow trolling, and if it triggers a flame war we will all get to spend a few days banned from these forums.

Besides it is rude to other members. Have enough decency not to foist your political agenda upon others, and have enough respect for the original poster not to risk an epic derailment. Those were some pretty ugly comments you made.

Depends on the region.

FF13 with slim bundled at 349$ might be sold out in Japan.

GT5 + Slim bundled at 349$ might be sold out in Europe.

In america...well good luck I guess.

but it was to $199 = phsycological impact

& it STILL didn;t sell out

I know, it's silly that I'm responding to a banned person who can't acknowledge my post, but this is for the benefit of the conversation in general:

Didn't the 360 actually suffer some substantial supply constraints last Holiday season? You know, the one after the price cut.

It might sound overly optimistic but I think Ps3 can sell 5million units this holiday season if there's a price drop. Maybe even more if it really catches fire in Japan with GT5 and FFXIII

@ dodece

first off there is nothing inerrant about my post. bottom line, people are losing jobs and we who have jobs are paying more in federal taxes and state taxes which ties up our cash flow. I don't see this Christmas season going well in terms of spending. This Christmas will be more about family get to gether and low budget spending. The economy is in the dumps and is not pulling out soon if ever for that matter. Unemployment rate is over 9%, that is crazy. This Christmas will be tight with families and there not going to big budget presents under trees this year, which normally would. Also, I find it humorous you would say "not to foist your political agenda upon others" in light of whats been going on. If you find my comments so earth shattering offensive you will just have to overlook my posts.

My comments are only "ugly" to you because they are the truth. Why is everyone afraid of the truth, surely you wouldn't argue that they are not correct.

Based on how many people have commented that they will buy it when it drops to $299, there is a good chance they will sell out. They'll get a good boost in unit sales, either way.

@chriscox1121

That isn't what I was alluding to, and you damn well know it. The ugliness is the propaganda you spouted about Obama. It is one thing to say the economy is bad its another thing entirely to be passing out accusations, or making bullshit claims. That is the kind of thing that turns a gaming debate into a political debate, and quite frankly you should keep your fetish like obsessions to yourself or take them to where they belong.

You don't have any excuses there is a forum for this, and quite frankly seeing as moderators are not handing out warnings for this. I will just the tracks with you next time. Making some ugly comments about your grand master the dishonorable rush rimshaw.
