Forums - Sales Discussion - Report : PS3 faltering as publishers back Wii

Neos, there is no developer better than Capcom. I don't even know what Zack and Wiki is, Darkknight. What type of game is it?

And don't forget Camelot's Golf game coming as well (in 2008 but still)...

Whilst I'm a Wii supporter I have to say that just looking at the number of titles comng out is misleading. A far better way to identify 3rd party support would be to look at how much resources, ie. cash, devs are throwing at the different platforms. Obviously there is no accurate way to do this so we are left relying on stats that only tell half the story.

My guess at the moment would be that 360 is way out in front in terms of 3rd party investment, followed by PS3, partly owed to the fact that 360 titles can be ported over with Wii bringing up the rear.

I think that through 2008/09 Wii will climb the ranks and give the 360 a run for it's money and probably claim most dev investment but it ain't gonna happen overnight.

I agree. But please keep in mind that the Wii is easier to develop for and hence any big project willcost less on Wii. Therefore a total reliance on development cost will not work either.

True, though using a rule of thumb that a Wii project costs half what an equivalent 360/PS3 game does I still think at the moment it's still way back in last place, ie. Wii has way less than half the 3rd party resources currently invested in it as PS3 and a mere fraction of 360.

On the plus side if my prediction is correct and in 2008/09 Wii is on par with 360 in terms of dollars invested Wii owners will have around twice as many quality titles to choose from, not to mention more great 1st and 2nd party software as nobody can touch N in that department. Unfortunately for PS3 I think it will be way behind both it's competitors in all software categories as 3rd parties continue to distance themselves from the system and looking at Sony published titles so far as an indication, 1st and 2nd party games will also fall short of it's rival's offerings.

Of course these are all just my opinions, though I think current trends, facts and figures support them.

OMG please learn about Z&W. This game is bound to be excellent.
And Capcom is my favorite developer after Nintendo, along with Bethesda and Blizzard.

Don't worry Neos, I knew you were talking about N.

I would be very surprised if any company came within a country mile of N in terms of # of high scoring games and of course sales, in fact I think it would take about half of the rest of the entire industry!

Nintendo doesn't need quality third party games because they got themselves. Given the choice, I'm sure they'd rather have a ton of crap on the shelf then a few big budget efforts.
