Sony has hacked $50 off of the 160GB PS3 in america. There is also a rumour saying there will be a €100 pricecut on the 80 GB PS3.

This is thanks to engadget. I'm not sure but i believe the pricecut is only for amazon but it says it was cut by Sony.

So despite Slim not being OFFICIAL yet, PS3 is getting cuts, both by Sony and by distributors themselves. And imagine what'll happen when the slim does get released...

It's not a rumor that Sony and distributors have already cut prices for PS3s... (there have been countless threads, especially by Europeans, who stated that X store is selling PS3's very cheaply).

I am aware there have been countless threads. Ive posted in pretty much all of them. I think there needs to be an official PS3 price chack thread or something along those lines. Yesterday in the Sony section there were 3 subjects,

Gran Turismo
PS3 Slim
PS3 price

Yes, but I wasn't adressing that part of your original reply, but the "rumor' part, which is false, since the OP posted an event that ALREADY happened (Amazon cutting $50 off). Yes, there also are speculations within the article and OP, but the main focus, the title of the thread is, Sony cuts PS3 price, and they have. Therefore, it's not a rumor, doesn't belong in such a thread.

Fire sale - $50 price cut to clear out excess old stock. It is not a permanent PS3 price cut.

I understand, but I don't think the OP meant to say "permanent PS3 price cut", but simply that the price has been cut by Sony and distributors. This is a fact.

Afterwards we can discuss why Sony's not going for a permanent price cut and why distributors are trying to clear out so much stock and speculate. However, we'll be speculating on the implications of a FACT, which is that the PS3 has been getting price cuts randomly. Why isn't Sony just calling for a uniform and permanent price cut? Why are distributors randomly shaving the prices off the PS3? Who knows, but it HAPPENED.
