Try and pick up Freespace 2 if you liked Starlancer, Freelancer, etc.

It is the pinacle of space combat coupled with an interesting story and with great missions.

It also puts you in the middle of the biggest space battles you can imagine.

I've been replaying it currently. It's great when you utilize visual enhancements brought on by the Freespace Sourcecode Project. It really brings new life to the look of this ten year old game.

Yeah, it's still worth playing IMO, particularly with the enhancements.  In some ways it still has the biggest 'wow' moments of any game I've played... like when you're in a tiny fighter ship, and an alien battleship that is 1 kilometre long or more bursts through a bank of nebula above you and starts firing beam weapons so large they fry you in a second if you cross them.  So many moments like that.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
