LOL alcohol is not a "hard drug", if you can't control your intake, thats your fault, that doesn't mean its a hard drug. Heck if you drink enough water it can kill you, thats not a hard drug is it?

You are aware that alcohol is legal? And that a small quantity a day is very good for you. Most people drink, if it was really that dangerous im going to call the cops this minuite!

Also Sammy,
Would you say if Phelps was caught at home drinking 1 glass a red wine would you say that would set a bad example to future swimmers?
Or would taking illegal drugs be worse?

still not exactly proffesional conduct to abuse either though is it?
i agree that alcohol is more dangerous, but the title of your thread says "proffessional", now whereas i consider some people to be proffesional in terms of standard of ability, theyre conduct as a person may be incredibly un-proffessional.
for instance, i consider Micheal Schumacher to be a super sportsman in terms of ability, but some of the things he did as a driver...i consider very un-proffesional.
that's why i want clarification as to what the subject is here, if its just in terms of ability, then yes, Phelps could be considered, but if its in terms of both ability and conduct, well, one might wish to review his consideration?
*i dont actually know what he took, i only know of him because he won in the olympics which was on the news here, my comment was directed at the thread in general, not any specific athlete*
Seece: Alcohol is a hard drugs. No need for a pointless discussion because that's what it is. Go google it.
Footballfan: I don't feel a thing when smoking marihuana. I know alcohol is legal, but that doesn't change the fact that it's a hard drug. I've had 2 people from my family die because they were addicted to alcohol, so please don't come here and tell me that it isn't dangerous. And I drink alcohol a lot, so I know what I'm talking about.

Phelps issued a public apology after the News of the World published a photo of him inhaling from the type of glass pipe used to smoke cannabis.
And considering it being more dangerous than alcohol is irrelevant, he took illegal drugs. He should obey the rules of the land to provide a good example.

SciFiboy: I mean people who stand out above everyone else because of what they have won. I don't care for their personal life because I don't know them and probably never will. It's wrong to judge people you don't know personally. Anyway, marihuana isn't evel illegal where I live.

oh i see, so there is no proof that he actually took drugs, just that he inhaled from a pipe that could be used to smoke a drug?
in that case, there is no issue with his consideration for this thread (atleast no as a result of that story, theres no proof he actually broke the law)

Well, Phelps should know the rules of his country and if he doesn't like them he should leave.

ok, fair enough, like i said, its not the legality that im questioning, its the notion of someone abusing such a substance.
also, what if someone breaks rules to win? is that still top class? imo, yes, but only if the only thing there famous for was NOT due to that cheating, which is rare, so people like Schumacher or Marradonna i still consider top class, even though both have technically cheated on atlleast one occassion.
