Forums - Sony - Sony Anual report out now (Year ended 31 July 2009)

wow, huge decrease in the number of PSP's sold. Makes me sad....

I also find it funny that they burried the gaming business in with other products. Now it is going to be just like Microsofts EDD where all the fanboys bicker at what is losing money and what isn't. :)

It's reports like this that reaffirm my belief that the days of Sony's gaming division are numbered. I doubt we'll ever see a PS4.

^^being a little bit pessimistic there dont you think..but ur kinda right it doesnt look too good for sony's gaming division right now..all i know is competition = happy consumer..so i dont want sony to drop out

on a different note..PS3 is Doomz..haha

oh noes

A $100 price cut for the PS3 would amount to suicide for Sony, uness they are able to doubled their software sales in the process.

^ Interestingly on that point, they have retained their 13M PS3 forecast for their FY.
Are they serious? Or are they expecting a massive Christmas?

Well, on the bright side, Sony Pictures, Financial services and Music (Sorry MJ, you're not counted yet if you're reading this wherever you might be) all seem to be in positive territory.
Not so much the Sony Ericcson division though.

Sony Music is not in positive territory... it look as it is in positive territory cuz previously Sony owned 50% but now Sony owns 100%. So if u read the details then u will see it has also seen 19% (not sure) decrease YoY.

But overall the outlook is bright, and Sony might do better than expected at the year end... I m not any accountant, but the wording sounded like they r doing better than their 1st Quarter expectation, i cant say in which segments they have done better than expected or which segment are still a worry for them.. Maybe some professional can tell us better.

They must plan that there will be a big rebound during Christmas. All the prospective customers who are delaying their purchases could all end up buying them during the holidays. During that time, if they can release a new PS3 model, they can re-introduce it to make it a fresh option compared to the X360. Also, they are banking on GT and Final Fantasy in Japan, to move some systems. It also looked like they were making KZ2 and Infamous greatest hits in Europe. On top of that they do seem to be a little quiet. They might waiting for the right moment to start a massive campaing to sell the PS brand during the holidays.

If they can time when they advertise heavilyh when people start buying again they could start to move a lot of units. I think they will most likely trying to bundle bigs games, with at most a modest price-cut over a large price cut if there is one.

It's not pessimistic, it's realistic. I hope I'm wrong, but all signs seem to point to the discontinuation of the PS3 in 2 years, tops.
