US: Ghostbusters sells 1m
Atari strikes gold with licensed console game success
Some say that licensed games have enjoyed their time in the sun, but Atari has proved many naysayers wrong with news that licensed action outing Ghostbusters: The Video Game has sold over 1m copies in North America.
Of course, unlike in Europe where all non-PS3 owners are having to wait until October to get their hands on the game, the title was released on Xbox 360, PS3, PC, Wii, PS2 and DS on the other side of the Atlantic.
“We are very pleased with the performance of Ghostbusters,” Atari CEO Jim Wilson stated. “I credit the game’s quality as well as the incredible support from both the established and new fan-base all helping to make this a retail success.
“Ghostbusters appears to be a strong and relevant movie-based franchise videogame independent of a brand-new theatrical release. We look forward to the continued success of the title as interest and acclaim increase across North America.”
