Did you do them right. When i first started to use mods i was scared i would mess up my games. And it did. But i would remove them and read more about how to do it. For oblivion and morrowind i found it easy. They each have a data folder. Then the mod download will have meshes and textures and then the activation file. If it isn't already in a data folder you can place them in one. Then copy it and place it where the oblivion data file is and it will do that thing where it "There is already a filed called this do you want to 'do whatever'" i can't remember the whole quote. Then you say yes to all and it works.
I have also used sim city mods they are really cool i like making big cities with real buildings.
