DLP2 was great on the GC for Eternal Darkness, when you cast spells, the chant traveled around the room. Was really eerie.
I was very annoyed that the Wii was still using DLP2 and not proper 5.1 sound. I'm an audio maniac, these things bother me. |
What do you mean? There's better sound than DLP2?

I'm going to assume you're being a smartass as usual, but I'll post this for those that don't know -
Mono < Stereo < DPL1 < DPL2 < Dolby Digital 5.1 < Dolby Digital 7.1
(Actually, DD 5.1 and 7.1 are similar, just allows for more speakers, so more sound placement in the room. This setup actually goes as far as 9.1, but most devs and movie studios use 5.1 - 5 speakers (front right/left, rear right/left, center and a subwoofer)
The diff between Dolby Pro Logic 2 and Dolby Digital 5.1 is that DPL2 takes the stereo signal, splits it and reroutes it to the speakers to give a faux-surround sound. DD 5.1 actually runs on different layers, each assigned for a specific speaker. DD 5.1 is MUCH more developer friendly for providing precise surround sound. I had the pleasure of understanding how awesome DD 5.1 is when I sat in on a conference at GDC with Bungie showing off their Halo 2 audio engine.
And rarrr on dyslexic fingers, DPL, not DLP. Yes DLP is tv tech.
