@FKnetwork
yes, what's the problem?
Sony is increasing spending on all fronts, this can only mean they are doing better than they were, despite possible overspending.

Walkman usually does well, Vaio, eh it could go either way, but I'm sure it will be a massive loss.
They aren't doing this to combine profits, they are doing it so that they can eliminate a lot of management positions by bringing them all under one president. Basically they will be eliminating 2/3rds of operating costs.

Taz I'm not sure if the Vaio/Walkman merge will affect the financial reporting. That may just have been an organizational change, without impact on the financial reporting.
If Vaio and Walkman are indeed merged financially with SCE, then it will be hard to tell the impact of the different parts...

Yeah, we'd get a clearer picture if they were separate financial reports. Another thing we'll be able to find out from the report is whether or not this rumoured 'Summer PS3 Slim' is coming. It's a rumour I highly doubt, I think the Slim is set for Christmas - but at least we'll be able to confirm from shipping numbers.
| theprof00 said: WHY? All things are pointing to Ps3 breaking even on one game or controller or less. It's even possible that with Home, Sony breaks even on every console sold since Home's release. So, why am I saying Sony Computer Entertainment is going to be in the red? Because SCE is making money now, and with that comes a lot of the expenses that they were forgoing because of their money crunch. This means: 1. New commercials: There are about 3 Playstation commercials running around the media at the moment. This is 2 More than what they've been running throughout most of the PS3's lifetime. 2. R&D: Move to PS3slim. With any move to a new design, even if it uses cheaper materials, there are a lot of costs associated in it. New molds, new contracts with initial downpayments, new machinery, and so on. 3. New exclusives: As we have all been seeing, PS3 is aquiring quite a few new JRPGs and a lot of other exclusives. Almost every day I come and lurk on the chartz I see a new post about some new ps3 exclusive. What this suggests is that Sony is doing exactly what they used to do. They are helping to develop new exclusive IPs from the ground up with their own programmers. Not to mention that they have also dropped the cost of their dev tools by 75% or so. What this means is a lot of new games, but also a lot of expenses.
I actually think they may hit the black, but I've noticed a lot of movement within the company and it all points to increased spending. What do you think? |
I have a few questions just for clarification:
1) When you say "Sony" in the title, you meant SCE, right? Clearly all legitmate forecast for this quarter have Sony as a company reporting a huge loss.
2) You say this as if it is fact: "Because SCE is making money now" is your proof the estimations you are making in the previous paragraph? Paragraph two, without solid links to back those statements up, are at best, guesses, not facts.
3) As further proof are you suggesting the SCE is spending more money, because they are making more? This argument is building on a previous argument, a previous argument that I think is estimation not fact, which weakens this argument as well. Regardless, for months Sony has been towing the line that profitability is thier primary concern, but it sounds as if you are suggesting that they have already reached it, but decided to immediately go back in the red.
I think any real attempt at analysis on these boards should be greeted with respect, not hate, so I am NOT trynig to say, that your topic is garbage or anything like that. The questions are concerns about how you arrived at your analysis, and I think there are some factors you may have left out. I could be wrong though, and am willing to admit it, if you prove it so.
1. I meant SCE yes, but they are now merged with two other sections
2. Yes, it is all an estimation. Sony ahs been cash crunched and there have been a lot of questions like, "where is sony's marketing", "where are the RPGs", "where are the new exclusives". Those questions exist because of the crunch.
In the past few months I have noticed a turnaround in all three of those. I've seen increased 3rd party support, more JRPG support, and lots of commercials. This can only mean that SCE has a lot more money to work with. They will spend this money because they are all investments which return.
As per "plunging back into the red", It's possible that this investment that I just spoke of might not have paid off yet and that it is a longer term approach to make more money in the future.
In short, yes this is all estimation. But let's look at the big picture. Why has there been a deluge of exclusive new IPs in JRPG and other genres? Why are there more commercials? These are both large expenditures that they didn't have money for before.
I drew logical conclusions based on the evidence available. They may be correct or incorrect conclusions, but they do follow.

Sorry, just seems your living on another planet with this thread but as long as your happy carry on!
FKNetwork it's really annoying when people do what you're doing without even explaining what they mean.
Borderline trolling, IMO.

How am I trolling lol, I think he is living on another planet with this thread, 99% of it is pure rubbish that makes no sense, can't you see everyone elses replies here saying the same thing as me? the difference is I put it more bluntly, no point in running around the subject......
^ Well, most people think that Forza 3 outselling GT5 is garbage, yet you think it's a cert to happen. You really just can't or don't understand that GT is big, very big.
