Forums - Microsoft - Joystick confirms LastFM / 360 deal is useless

Aunti Gill bless her has a nice swanky LCD HD TV with built in Digital TV tuner and what do you suppose she does with her telly all day. Well she listens to Smooth FM and plays her CD collection via her DVD player. She is over the moon with her Telly.

Horses for Courses I guess.

I remember way back in my Doom/Quake days having the option to listen to music whilst battling the horde. I never took up this option as it was a distraction.

That is me but I also know plenty of folk who listened to banging heavy rock whilst they battled the horde.

Again like my Aunti Gill (bless her) it is Horses for Courses.

This seems like an amazing feature for parties

You got your 360 hooked up to the best sound system, and now Live radio stations for whatever music your party wants to listen to!

This seems pretty useless now. Who fires up their 360 to listen to music? I just can't see the point.

I lot of people.  You need to look beyond the 360 as just a gaming device and look at it as a multimedia hub, which is one of the ways Microsoft looks at it.

I have a 360 in my bedroom that is pretty much ONLY used for media streaming.  Watching TV/movies and accessing music.  Can you think of a better way to stream media to different rooms in the house?  For 200 bucks the arcade with Media Center is a great device for this purpose.

Lastfm will be another useless PR gimmick for the 360. What is the point if you have to do nothing else on the 360 ?

After the HDDVD drive turned into a cup handler, now the console itself turns into a 1980 radio ?

I didn't realize my HD DVD players stopped working when the format died!  Holy crap, I guess I should go throw out my 200 HD DVDs.  What a bummer.

I stream music from our Media Center PC all the time mostly with slide shows of pictures going as well. Will Last.FM do that? Not being able to play in game is understandable, but not being able to have music playing while a slideshow would be disapointing.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

Personally I did not enter the HD DVD era until after it died. Got me plenty of coffee mats for only 3 or 5 pounds each and my HD DVD player was only 40 pounds which at the time made it the cheapest Upscaler that I could find and combine that with the ability to play coffee mats and it was a Win Win for me.

That is some quality trolling right there.  This is how it's done folks, learn from this man.

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick

Sounds pretty useless to me.
Off topic, can somebody tell me how to run windows media center on my xbox? My 360 is literally 1 foot from my pc and they run from the same monitor..

And that's the only thing I need is *this*. I don't need this or this. Just this PS4... And this gaming PC. - The PS4 and the Gaming PC and that's all I need... And this Xbox 360. - The PS4, the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360, and that's all I need... And these PS3's. - The PS4, and these PS3's, and the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360... And this Nintendo DS. - The PS4, this Xbox 360, and the Gaming PC, and the PS3's, and that's all *I* need. And that's *all* I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one... I need this. - The Gaming PC and PS4, and Xbox 360, and thePS3's . Well what are you looking at? What do you think I'm some kind of a jerk or something! - And this. That's all I need.

Disappointing a bit, but definitely not useless...

MS might update in the coming months to make it compatible during games
