Forums - Sony - Sonys franchises are worth billions

^ GT might be, Citreon are making 6 $2m cars based on GT5p, its a big player in the motor industry. Also, this would help Sony short term, but not long term.

Yah I think it will take PS4 and PS5 both bombing for Sony to pull out, and I don't think that is going to happen. Just look N64 and GameCube both underperformed and now Nintendo reporganized itself and regrouped and are back in the super power seat. I think Sony will drastically change their approach to gaming next generation, investing less in hardware power and more in innovation and targetting a specific user base rather then trying to please everyone!

selling some of their older franchises that they arent doing anything with, might be an ok idea to get some cash....but they certainly arent worth anywhere near what you think they are...we arent talking something like halo or mario.

Gran Turismo is still bigger than Halo.

if you think the GT franchise is worth more than Halo, you are absolutely out of your mind....or attempting a joke(if so, i dont get it...)

Still waiting for Halo 3 to outsell GT 3 or GT 4. (Sony has shipped well over 10 million of GT4. It's undertracked here)

you buy GT for the dev team... not the name, and this fanchise has nothing else than the name really.... any car sim can have 500 greatly rendered real cars in it...

Halo has a universe, a hero...it can be only done with the franchise.

How dare you say that to the definitive racing sim of any gen!?

God of war has a dark myth universe, and a spartan that kill greek myth gods...how can it be more badass =p

I'm guessing you are speaking of the acquisition of studios.

Nintendo could do something with Jak & Daxter or Ratchet & Clank if they acquired Naughty Dog. But I seriously doubt Nintendo would EVER want to work with Sony again.

Nintendo putting effort in a Syphon Filter in the same manner as a Metroid would be a dream come true as well.

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

So would you be willing to make a bet that Halo 3 will sell more than GT5?

Lets say sony decides that they are done with the console races next gen and drop out, What will they do?

1. they could become a third party publisher and make good money.

2. sell every franchise they own to microsoft for billions to take on nintendo.

3. sell every fanchise they own to nintendo for billions to take on microsoft.

Im not going to name every franchise sony owns because im too lazy, but just to name a few big ones are

god of war, gran turismo, infamous, sly cooper, ratchet and clank, killzone, uncharted, and even the unreleased heavy rain.

thats alot of billions in sonys pocket if they sell them what do you guys think?

Who would pay billions for those franchises? I question if those franchises have even generated a billion dollars combined.

Wishful thinking? Really? Losing $40 on a last-place-and-falling-even-further-behind console with no sign of a price cut coming, reputation torn to shreds, loss of exclusivity of key franchises, and losses in all other divisions and it's wishful thinking to predict their demise?

PS4? That's wishful thinking. PS5? I'm more likely to marry Megan Fox.

Losing $40 on each one sold was early this year. They have rolled out less expensive and smaller chips so I'd imagine they are making a small profit currently. NO SIGNS OF A PRICE CUT COMING?! You must have been away from the planet for the past 3 months to honestly think that. Have you not heard of the Slim? It's gurranteed to come out this fall, and I personally gurrantee it will get some form of a price cut. They still do have brand name, believe it or not. Everyone knows what a Playstation is. That's all that matters. Loss of exlusivity to 3rd party games was bound to happen, but Sony's huge list of 1st party exclusives makes up for it.

PS4, if that's its name, is a given. To think it's not coming is just silly. I don't know about a PS5 though; that's too far into the future.
