PC FPS - Doom
Console FPS - Goldeneye (sorry, it sold bucket loads and showed it could work, just like Halo, only earlier)
Stealth PC - Thief
Stealth Console - MGS
Super Mario - platformers
Alone in Dark - Survival horror
Wii Sports - motion control fun console sports
Starcraft - RTS

That's all I have.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

There are so many genres and subgenres.

Im sorry but alone in the dark shouldnt be listed here...

We are not tlaking first games to do the genre...but games that made them popular. Resident Evil all the way.

Wouldn't the most meaningful game in any genre default to being the one that was responsible for first creating that genre?

I mean, if an entire genre may not have existed if not for a game then I think that's about the best you can get.

WoW: MMORPG
Horror: Resident Evil
Shooters: Counterstrike
Platformer: Mario Bros.
Racing: GT

Snake Rattle and Roll for isometric snake games.

Ice Climber for Vertical Scrollers

Street Fighter 2 for 2d fighters

Duck Hunt for On Rail Shooters

Mario for Pipe Games

Nah, Alone in the Dark for me any day.  It released 1992 or so on PC and set the standard and sold well.  RE simply made the genre popular on console in 1996 or so when it released.  AITD also popularised the concept, simply on another platform, and I don't see a console title as being definitive vs an earlier, equally innovative and successful PC title.

In a way I guess you could say AITD was the first in the West, while RE was the first in the East (since I'd be willing to bet AITD was hardly noticed there as the Japanese I believe did not indulge in PC gaming at the time).
