Forums - Gaming - Which gaming company has developed/created the most games over the years?

@ Lestat, if you say so... My memory isn't my best feature, but I was under the impression that Maxis was aquired late in 2000 and something. My mistake.

@aavidbacon

Actually I did a bit of research, and Maxis was aquired in july 28, 1997. You were right in your former assumption that SimCity was released before E.A bought them, but they released The Sims prior to the aquisition. Sorry for the mix-up there ;)

Current PC Build

CPU - i7 8700K 3.7 GHz (4.7 GHz turbo) 6 cores OC'd to 5.2 GHz with Watercooling (Hydro Series H110i) | MB - Gigabyte Z370 HD3P ATX | Gigabyte GTX 1080ti Gaming OC BLACK 11G (1657 MHz Boost Core / 11010 MHz Memory) | RAM - Corsair DIMM 32GB DDR4, 2400 MHz | PSU - Corsair CX650M (80+ Bronze) 650W | Audio - Asus Essence STX II 7.1 | Monitor - Samsung U28E590D 4K UHD, Freesync, 1 ms, 60 Hz, 28"

Uff, my memory is not that bad, after all.

BTW, EA are great publishers, but not so great devs, I mean, every time they envolve themsleves a little more in the Companies they bougth we end up with things like Societies and Spore. And half my library is EA, take a look, so I would know how they are ruing franchises.

Spore kind of dissapointed me as well, I was expecting something quite larger and with more interactions, given that the game had that potentail. It all went to waste with the lackluster space exploration phase of the game.
The only game that they have published in the past few years that i've actually enjoyed was Dead Space, which has me looking forward to Dante's Inferno, since it's coming from the same developers. Hopefully Redwood Shores aren't pressured by EA to start milking those franchises, it would be such a shame

huh, wheredja get those numbers, ninja? didnt realize capcom was that big
i used the game search function

That will not work right, as we have Nintendo, Nintendo EAD, and all sorts of internal studios that get listed as something other than "Nintendo"

Going by titles published in any 1 region (so Mario & Sonic get counted due to publishing in Japan) you get a closer look, but still not accurate for the question at hand. These numbers also include multi-platform games, and games developed by others.

Nintendo - 864

Electronic Arts - 1038
Electronic Arts Victor - 51 (these need the publisher changed, as Victor is a dev studio, not a publisher)
EA Sports - 260 (some EA Sports titles are listed under Electronic Arts)
EA Sports Big - 37 (same as above probably)
EA Mobile - 3 (massivly incomplete)
Total - 1,389 - Overall, this number is probably on the low side due to our incomplete yet ever improving database.

Sega - 1515

Capcom - 547

Activision - 771
Activision/Blizzard - 35 (Activision still publishes under seperate labels for Activision and Blizzard, so these really belong under Activision)
Total - 806

Ubisoft - 829

Atari - 648

So the totals for published titles that include multi-plats looks like

  1. Sega
  2. EA
  3. Nintendo
  4. Ubisoft
  5. Activision
  6. Atari
  7. Capcom

Of course, this list isn't 100% accurate, but based on this I would guess that titles deveopled (not counting multi-platform) looks more like this

  1. Nintendo
  2. Sega
  3. EA
  4. Ubisoft
  5. Atari
  6. Activision
  7. Capcom

Doing some confirmation over at Moby Games, it looks like I am realitively close.

Thanks for looking in to this extensively nordlead, much appreciated.

So, it was just as i suspected, Nintendo and Sega have Developed more games than any other gaming companies.

I'm Shocked at the amount of games that Sega have also published......... Impressive all round on Sega's part.

Well, they've been around for a long time as well...

@ OP - Sorry for being off topic

@ Samus - OK, I just looked at your game collection and noted something weird

There certainly seems to be a lot of love for EA (and Ninty) from you, infact, here are the developer totals

Ninty = 15
EA = 4
Activision = 3
Take two = 2
Konami = 1
Hudson = 1
Bohemia Interactive = 1
Capcom = 1

Wait, what's that? Could it be that EA is infact your 2nd favourite developer of all time? I think that is what was just shown to be true.

I own more EA games, just didn't bother to add some of the sims games to my database. I don't really know what 4 titles you say are from EA as I don't pay attention to publishers, but it's probably ssx3 which was good. The other ssx sucked ASS. Need for speed game sucked as well. I feel sorry for buying those games, I really do. Only good games I have from them are ssx3 and the sims1. Medal of honor sucked too, I got it for free. 3 of the 4 EA games and I regret buying them. That's just BAD.

How many games have sony developed over the last 15 years?

Poor showing for 15 years so called work by sony if truth be told.

Lazy "corporation"

Bottom line__________________________

I didn't realize SEGA was so high, makes sense though.
I would have thought EA and maybe Ubisoft from all the games they have done.
And Nintendo would be really high of course.

EA didn't support the Dreamcast. (EA also tend to drop out of supporting machines once they hit hard times, unlike real heroes like Capcom who supported the Dreamcast to the very end)

Of course EA have made many games on many consoles.

But it is testiment to Segas hard work that they have out-developed so many other gaming giants.
