Forums - General - Can you solve the Rubik's Cube?

Had one when I was 12 or so, was a birthday present together with a pretty great book on solving it (no idea about author anymore).
I have some vague memories about a minute and a half but it's been like 15 years. A great toy though, no doubt.

I used to solve it by taking the rubik's cube apart. They even used to sell stickers so you could fake a solution.

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.

I have no patience for that thing.

I got a rubik's cube just a few months ago as a gift. I sincerely tried to solve it a few times. However, after about 10 minutes of fiddling with it, I toss it aside. I have a disposition to be unable to commit to the cube long enough to solve it on my own.

I think you have missed the point entirely. The goal is not to solve it as fast as you can, or to even solve it period. The point is to be enthralled for large spans of time, as the toy is a great tool for introspection. It is the difference between a passionate night of love making, and a terrible case of premature ejaculation.

Regardless where is the accomplishment in doing something that is easy. The point of a puzzle is to actually be challenged. A puzzle that isn't supremely challenging just isn't any fun. Here let me give you a new puzzle.

Draw a line with three triangles. Then beneath it draw a line of three squares. Make sure they are parallel and even. You should have a triangle above each square. Now you need to draw three lines from each triangle to each one of the squares. Here is the important part you cannot cross any lines while doing so. This puzzle is a real bitch, and took me over five years off and on to solve.

Yes, took me 2 weeks the first time, if it had been any longer I probably would've given up.

Looking Forward to: Alan Wake | Splinter Cell : Conviction | The Last Guardian | Batman: Arkham Asylum | SMG2 | Mass Effect 2 |

When I was like 6 or 7 it would take a good hour but I would solve it ocasionally, but nowadays I give up so quickly!

I've tried four times before, and I've solved it once over a course of a few months when I was 11.

Now, I don't care to think and I just want to do it quickly.

And what the hell do you mean "a line with three triangles"?

EDIT: Did you mean a line OF three triangles? This is why grammar is unbelievably important.

After reading you posts the last few weeks, why do you like to provoke issues and find any flaw to argue even when it's a simple question like this?

He just wants to know if you can solve it!

Sorry I tried to keep it simple. Probably too simple. I will try to show you graphically if these forums do not fuck it up its a real simple I mean who doesn't have a pen and some paper. I will substitute A X for the triangles, and a Y for the squares.

Y Y Y

Now you need to draw a line from the first X to all three of the Y. Next you need to draw a line from the second X to all three of the the Y, and you need to do the same for the third X. With none of the lines crossing one another. In the end each X and Y should have three lines coming from it. Now if your doing the puzzle right you should be finding that your locking your last line out, and that is the problem figuring out how to get all the lines to work is the challenge. This is a real good puzzle. I am sorry if you cannot follow this explanation. I mean at this point either you can see it or you cannot.

Firstly its my nature. Secondly is a forum really the place for simple answers. You can get those in any chat room, or go to some social networking site. Forums are at their very best when those posting take the time to find some depth. You take the ball and run with it, and then the next guy runs with it, and that is part of the fun. Who wants to watch a sporting even with a set outcome. Where is the fun in that. Use your imagination if your not shaping a conversation are you actually talking with someone, or are you just mumbling on a street corner.
