We have thousands of people with very high level clearances. 535 more would not be that much. Plus, these should be the people you trust the most. If not, why the hell did you elect them?
I do think we, as a nation, should do a lot better job electing people with character, but I also think once we do, they should know all the information needed to do there jobs.
I personal think everyone in Washington cares deeply for the US, and would go out of there way to keep us safe. I just argue about there methods and what they think America stands for, but never there dedication to the country.

I disagree vehemently. I do not trust Congress at all. Politicians are corrupt enough as is.

Interestingly, as I understand it congress was briefed on this last month and it has been leaked in about a months time.
But we won't see a witch hunt over it like we have for other leaks because this leak serves a purpose in providing another step forward for another witch hunt aimed at the Bush Administration.
And apparently the program was “to carry out a 2001 presidential authorization to capture or kill al Qaeda operatives.”. From what I can find it was a sniper program targetting al Qaeda operatives. Congress was apparently never briefed because their briefing packages include programs in effect or that are being put into effect and this one never was (reason unknown thus far). So..in effect they weren't briefed because they weren't supposed to be briefed.....
Hardly a scandal from what I've found so far but I'm sure more details will be coming so I'll be watching...especially for the reasoning behind not activating the program.
