BR sold 9 million discs in the first quarter of 09, which is double that of last years first quarter. If they can keep doubling up, it could become a huge profit source. The DVD/BR industry is around 27-32 billion a year depending on the year and economic strength.

yes agreed. But it also depends on the economy. Last year was ~28 B but is usually a lot higher.

Let me also point out that Sony gains royalties on every blu-ray sold. May be split up amongst many people but 9 million in 3 months stacks up.On top of that Sony has their own movie studio. And these numbers don't include Blu-ray players sold that Sony also manufactures and gets royalties on. And they also dont include HD-TVs that blu-ray will inevitablly sell... which again sony manufactures.

Sony is the major stakeholder in BR and they receive most of the royalties under the BR forum.

To add to your statements, BR drives are becoming more and more a standard option for desktops and laptop computers. Game developers pay BR royalties as well. Sony makes a very good income off of these, even though it is still very very early in the adoption process.

So your telling me that SE chose to put their games (japanese sellers mostly) on the xbox 360 (which does not sell in Japan) out of spite?
