Forums - General - Why Do People Like Disney So Much?

I don't like them particularly. I did like some of the films, Beauty and the Beast for example. Hated The Little Mermaid because it was such a crappy and watered down story compared to the original. Alice in Wonderland also didn't come anywhere near the book. Pretty much always disliked the various series.

Can't say Disney has some eternal appeal on me, I have rewatched some of the films with my niece and I didn't find them that special. Though on animation level they are very well done, with plenty of unique move frames. They are also pretty much the only animations where in-film songs don't irritate the hell out of me.

Dude, Alice in Wonderland is arguably the best book-to-movie adaptation ever made.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is.

I guess it depends from person to person. Malifacent from Sleeping Beauty gave me nightmares as a kid. Maybe it's the "bridge" feel, trying to attract adults as well as kids, with its success depending on each individual.

Never saw it, but that doesn't change the core of my previous message, which is that you would be hard-pressed to be more wrong about Alice in Wonderland.

I LOVE DISNEY.

My age is in my profile, the answer should be obvious.

edit: though I spent my childhood around Europe a fair bit and Disney wasn't always part of the daily cartoons. In particular I watched quite a few French and Czech animations, as well as anime (only later found out it was Japanese).

you do realize you exerted a lot more energy being a smartass than you would've by simpy typing two digits then clicking reply, right?

I have no answer for the OP other than to say excellent animation, excellent storytelling and beautiful songs and characters.

I can't explain why they don't grab a particular person--not everyone likes Shakespeare, either. But the Disney classics are... classic. :)

Because with Disney, there's something for everyone. There are a lot of Disney films I don't like (even the Lion King is kind of "meh" for me), but I love Pinocchio. Your problem may be that you're too old, I don't know.

im 20, and i like anime and The Simpsons/Futurama, so its not my age or lack of open mindedness to cartoons or animation

i just dont get the appeal of watching a dull adaptation of some fairy tale or something, the characthers and plots in the films also seem contrived to me.
