Good luck Google....

While I'm agreeing with you that Windows ain't going nowhere, it once had a 96%+ less than 10 years ago (before the apple explosion). Nintendo also had a 95% marketshare on handhelds, and while they're still ahed of the competition, it's down to around 67% according to the latest figures.
Google is not gonna come in Microsoft's park, bitch slap them and overtake their product, but they'll take marketshare away from them, I guarantee you that much and with that they'll also take away browser marketshare.
Which is another thing that Google will have to watch out for because that's something that MS got in trouble with.

Those are some impressive numbers but... The mighty can fall.

*points at PlayStation*

Just look how Internet Explorer fell from the top, of course there are many alternatives though. And I find MS' attempt at owning Google with BING is equally silly tbh.

Even if the new Google OS is completely awesome and epic I don't think it'll sail in to the big ports and get a huge marketshare.

Bing did take away marketshare from google (as well as yahoo) in a short time and it's very good for video and image searches (read porn).

Also look at Apple and their OS. They have kinda failed even though they are probably the most loved electronics company around atm with a huge brand name. They also did alot of marketing...

If by failing you mean taking about 10% marketshare away from MS (and Linux to a smaller extent) in the past 5 years, yeah they have failed miserably.

Google's OS will be as terrible as their browser is, which is sad, because Windows needs serious competition and has none!

If their OS is as terrible as their browser, then I'll pre-order. Chrome rocks face.

It's a steaming pile of RAM-hungry garbage.

Opera >>> Firefox > IE8 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Chrome

That has been improved and your >>>>> is way off.
Opera>Firefox>>>>Chrome>>IE8

agreed

google chrome is just average... so over rated.

Google chrome is where my internet works the fastest on and it's a lot better then that crap thing Microsoft gives us. I'm not going to say anything about firefox as I can hardly spot the difference between google chrome and firefox except that google chrome looks better and it's easier to use.

Anyway it doesn't mean that because Google made a "shitty" web browser to someone that it's also going to make a bad OS... Microsofts OS must be really SHITTY then tbh...

Competition is always good, so I hope it will be a succes and steals some of that % microsoft has atm.

Even if the new OS fails, and doesn't get much penetration, all in all it's good for consumers because it will force MS to gain lower profit margins on Netbooks (and possibly more) to compete. You don't become the richest corporation in the world by having low profit margins.

Bing is a competent search engine as I said before (as was live search actually).
What google is (rightfully) worried about is that MS can just have IE pre installed on every windows (only reason why it's the #1 browser) and have its default home page to bing.
The only way google can combat that is by launching an operating system of their own.

And Google is rich enough to make a great OS :)

Not only that but actually do it right and convince the netbook, laptop and desktop makers to offer it pre installed on their machines as well so that you can buy it when you go to your favorite electronics retailer.
