So basically in Star Trek there just fucking with the great millionth Klingon grand kids every time they warp speed? Assuming warp speed is that fast.

Well warp 9.9 in the ST universe is approximately 21000 times the speed of light according to the Voyager series

Although its important to note that in the ST universe, warp is a very flexible concept, for example in VOY, warp 10 is considered infinite speed, but in TNG warp 13 was used by a future version of the enterprise, so really the concept isn't set in stone and varies based on what the writers want.

The likelihood of intelligent life somewhere in the universe is high, the likelihood of ever making contact with them is low, unless we master some form of FTL space travel or communication

As Einstein's Theory of Relativity states, objects that travel near the speed of light have a different rate of time.  You could theoretically travel to the Andromeda Galaxy in a person's lifetime if the spaceship was traveling close to the speed of light, even though people on Earth would experience a time of millions of years.

Yeah, and the likelihood is when they got there they'd be the last humans in existence, so basically we'd be sending out the last humans in existence and that is only if there is sentient life in Galaxy, what if all other sentient life is on the other side of the universe, even in relativistic ships, everyone would be dead by the time that trip was made.  Relativistic travel isn't a feasible form of long range space travel.

What other forms of space travel are there?

Relativistic travel is actually quite convienent, we can send humans long distances without having to sustain the ship for a long period of time.

I think it all depends on how long the human civilization survives. It's pretty likely that somewhere there is, or there will be life.

A (meaningful) war is unlikely, since it's very unlikely that another civilization is about as advanced as ours. You can't have a real war when one party is much more advanced than the other (and by the way, the odds would be against us since our civilization is still very young by cosmic standards). It's much more likely that there's either cooperation or quick annihilation of one of the players.

Probably, assuming we're around for a while as a species. Depends what you count as 'finding' as well.

Picking up some faint signals from space at some point would seem more probable than bumping into a bunch of holidaying aliens near Mars.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

I think World War 4 will be with aliens

Why does everyone assume we'd have a war with aliens if we would find them? I think that would be an awesome possibility to learn a damn lot about everything!

Because of HG Wells and his book THE WAR OF THE WORLDS.

I personally think that we would have peace with them and form an alliance. We want to find another civilization. They probably feel the same way.
