Now that the Family Game Night series has thoroughly rocked the pants off of board game fans worldwide, EA and Hasbro are ready to take their domination over the genre one step further. During an event earlier today in NYC, EA PR mentioned that Risk for Xbox Live Arcade is "on the horizon." If you're not jumping for joy right now, it means you've either never played Risk or you suck at it.
If there has ever been a game that needed to be attached to a service as popular as Xbox Live it's Risk. Getting people to commit to a several hour session is an impossible task these days, but the ability to play an online version of the classic game of world domination would be wonderful. Being able to save games? It would be the last game anyone would ever need to buy.
It would likely be its own release, not attached to the Family Game Night Brand because of its size. While we're pretty sure this is coming (based on the reactions of other people "in the know" when we brought it up) it's still unconfirmed, and technically in rumor territory. Even so, it might be time to start practicing evil cackles for use online - half of the fun of playing Risk is role-playing it, after all. Anyone else unnecessarily excited about this possibility?
I wonder if they'll put the Halo Wars themed Risk on XBLA too.
