Forums - Microsoft - It is sad that the Halo story kind of sucks...

The Halo series is awsome when it comes to nonstop FPS action. In fact it is arguably unparalleled in terms of creating the perfect blend of shooting, melee and vehicle combat. For this reason we love the game. That said the story is subpar and even worse it is a shame full rip off of Starcraft cannon. Allow me to illustrate the similarities.

In Starcraft there are the humans who are suddenly caught up in a war between a the Zerg and Protoss. There is also the Xel' Naga a race that left behind amazing artifacts, and in the end were nearly wiped out by the parasitic like Zerg.

In Halo there are the humans who are suddenly caught up in a war between the Covenant and Flood. There is also the Forerunners who left behind amazing artifacts and were wiped out by the parasitic like Flood.

Halo: Combat Evolved was released in Nov. 2001. Starcraft was released in March 1998. That gave Bungie plenty og time to ri off Blizzards ideas. Moreover Halo Wars, a Halo RTS game was released and is even more similar to Starcraft.

Shame on Microsoft for not coming up with their won original story, not that it would have been any better.

All valid points, but considering how shamelessly Blizzard pillaged Games Workshop's Warhammer lore in Warcraft, I have trouble feeling bad for them for being on the other side of it.

Never played warhammer, but Ill take your word for it. At any rate I thought the Warcraft and Starcraft games had excellent stories. Halo's story was also good up until the lackluster finale. It wasnt as bad as say Gears2 but it could have been so much more better.

Atleast Gears 2's story was relatively easy to follow which I can't say the same for Halo's story.

@KichiVerde

Microsoft had almost nothing to do with the actual development of Halo.  Blame Bungie for stealing from Starcraft.

You must have a short attention span, I found the Halo story ridiculously easy to follow.

Past Avatar picture!!!

Don't forget your helmet there, Master Chief!

I just finished Contact: Harvest and thought it was great. Probably my favorite so far. Joe Staten writes well - very compelling toward the end and, without spoiling anything, I liked how it made you feel attached to members of the Covenant and what it said about the pointlessness of war.

I am increasingly impressed with the Halo universe the deeper I get into it. It's quite well fleshed out though I'd agree the games do a pretty surface job. However, the 3 games are like a week in the Master Chief's life, so it's to be expected that there is only so much explanation.

Can't we all just get along and play our games in peace?

Me aswell.  I checked the city for the last three new books but didn't found them :(.

^^  But bought a Jackal figurine! By the way I have also the comic it is not really that great but if you are a fan of the Halo universe it is a nice addition to your collection. (But be prepared to be dissapointed cause it is a side story of some civilians).

If you want a story and great SP just play metroid franchise :)
If you want a great onlin experience play Halo :)

Take your pick

I bet you can't summarize Metal Gear Solid's story to me and I mean the entire series.  I never beated a Halo games and never read the novels so naturally I can't follow the story properly.

In his defence MGS has a hilarious story line at times...
