Aside from Killzone 2, there are the aforementioned Battlefield 1943 and Halo 3: ODST. There is also my personal favorite...Bioshock 2. 

i personally liked the e3 demo of modern warfare 2, it looked really thrilling in fact...my only problem was that they are still using the same engine for this game, it's getting kind of stale now

i cant believe i forgot bioshock 2...that game might win it...hell, it might even go for game of the year! as for halo 3 odst, the odds of it winning are very slim since it's just an expansion pack to the brilliant halo 3

MW2 will probably be shooter of the year because they just make good shooters. It's what they're good at.

Now what I'm curious about is why you think Killzone 2 is all that. If you take away the graphics it's an average at best shooter.

I've played many shooters, including Halo 3, Gears of War 1 and 2, and Call of duty 4/5 and loved all of them. Killzone 2 is in that same league in my opinion. The campaign mode is better than all the games mentioned above, it's just so damn thrilling, I loved each and every moment of it. The multiplayer is also awesome, simply one of the best I've ever played. What I'm curious about is why you're surprised that I think it's a great shooter. IGN, Gamespot, Gamtrailers, Gamepro, and many other websites have given it a score in the 90s and many websites, including Gamepro, claim it to be the best shooter of this generation!

i really dont see what the difference between shooters are

Modern Warfare 2 will be good.. but cmon guys, it's another generic shooter with improved graphics and new maps.

@ stewroids - being as good as those you mentioned doesn't take away the 'average at best' description. If it could be compared to any of the battlefield games, Timesplitters 2, counter strike, then it would be good

@ kratos - that's because the majority of FPS games ARE the same. You've just got to find the right ones

I disagree with you on that one...they might have the same concept of a hand with a gun in it but they feel different...for example, call of duty games are very free flowing while a game like Killzone has a lot of weight to it...Halo has a lot of freedom too with the ability to jump high and ride vehicles...moreover, each one has it's own unique multiplayer and the campaign modes are all completely different
