Forums - Sony - My Ps2 has finally died.

After I think 7(?) years it has finally taken its last breath.

I have had many good times with it, and even though I complained about it all the time I will miss it.I have played many good times, and it has taken alot of abuse(physically and vocally). I always said it was my least favorite of the consoles of last gen, but now when I look back I will get a warm feeling inside.

So can I have a moment of silence for my dead ps2?

Silence over, what happened?  Power surge take it out? They seem to be built pretty solid, and can take just about anything.

Consoles: Atari 5200, NES, SNES, N64, Dreamcast, PS2, Gamecube, Wii, Xbox 360, PS3

It stopped reading discs altogether. It has been slowly dieing for awhile now, skipping, freezing, and just playing when it felt like it.

Have you ever tried cleaning the diode? Mine has been going for 6 years and i had to clean the laser diode twice with alcohol and a cotton swab. It runs fine now. It plays PS2 games fine but i have a hard time playing my chrono cross or xenogears on it.

yes, i have. I have tried a couple of the store ones. It also takes close to thirty seconds for the disc holder to open.
