Does the Honduran constitution also have legal provisions for cracking down on the media in the event that the military must overthrow the President?

if the media was supporting zelaya, then yes, it might have.  239 also mentioned "those that support such violation directly or indirectly".   someone supporting the violater would qualify.   so they could be forced to cease doing that if necessary.

Then I'm going to have to agree with ManusJustus. There's nothing democratic about a law which the people aren't even allowed to discuss changing. If it was enshrining individual freedoms, I might understand, but this is just a mechanism which puts ultimate control of the government in the hands of the military.

Its more like its there to put a militar dictator in power.

I dont know how that protects liberty since anyway the ones who choose the president are still the people.

and its not even like the present guy is from the military.  the honduran congress, the peoples elected representatives, have selected a person from the ex-presidents own party.

Anybody except the guy they've already had. And if they talk about how they'd like to re-elect that guy, they're summarily arrested by the army without so much as the need for a court ruling. I thought somebody as obsessed with freedom as you would condemn this kind of tyranny.

Does that sound like a democracy to you? One of the defining characteristics of a democracy is that ultimate power flows from the people. It's clear that in Honduras, ultimate power flows from the army.

Legitimate democracies don't need to control the media. Dictators do.

So if I ask congress if it's ok that I don't pay taxes, they say no, and I don't pay them anyway and am arrested, that's tyranny?

There are proper ways to change the Constitution. I am for the rule of law, and even a president needs to follow those rules, whether he likes it or not.

And last I checked, the US has a FCC that controls the media. That does not make them less of a democracy.

If he wanted to change that law, he needed to petition congress to change it. That’s why they have a congress, so one man cannot change the constitution just because he wants to.

The Constitution is a document to protect the people of a country. Allowing one man to defy it against the will of the Supreme Court and congress is tyranny. Removing him from office is democracy.

Doesn't the U.S. have a history of supporting dictatorships if we see it as the better option? Nothing new.

Batista, Ngo Dinh Diem, Mobutu,Syngman Rhee, etc

Just to name you guys a few...

Ps: CIA also killed Ngo Dinh Diem and helped to kill Patrice Lumumba! You swines!

They cut Patrice Lumumba in a lot of pieces and desolved everything in acid. Yeah, that's how sick the US goverment is. In all fairness though, the Belgian goverment helped as well. Let's also not forget how many times John F. Kennedy tried to kill Fidel Castro with assasination attempts. Yeah, the irony John F. Kennedy... THE IRONY!

Let's not speak about the horrible things the US have done in North Korea, Japan, Vietnam and Cuba shall we?

Sorry, got a little bit dragged away. I'm a history freak

To answer your question... It's very simple, the US just does what ever suits them best. They've changed a little bit now, but they probably do everything in secrecy now anyway.

And Pinochet. We single-handedly ended the longest-running democracy in South America (Chile: 1818-1973) that time.
