PSP 2 still in the works: As powerful as Xbox?
It’s being reported that the PSP 2, a completely new next-gen PSP is in the works and will feature a Quad Core Graphics chip and have technology to match an Xbox.
In the run up to the PSP go rumours were abuzz of a PSP 2, with many confused over whether Sony was planning to unveil a brand new platform or an upgrade. Very soon it became clear Sony was only upgrading the PSP range before unveiling the UMD-lessPSPgo.
Now Eurogamer.es is reporting that a completely new PSP platform is in development and will feature brand new tech for better graphics and much faster processing speeds.
According to the report a quad core version of the SGX543MP chip, codenamed “Hydra” will feature in the next generation handheld and won’t be too dissimilar to that found in the iPhone 3GS. It will, it seems also centralise all its processing onto a single chip to save power, leading to a longer battery life.
It’s all a massive rumour for now but according to Digital Foundry (via Eurogamer) some “off the record” information revealed to them makes the PSP2 a “likely proposition.”
