Forums - Gaming - Is the Disgaea series hard?

Glad this I saw this thread because I actually bought my first SRPG a couple of months back and it was Final Fantasy Tactics for the PSP. That game was so difficult to master that I completely gave up. Some people on here thought of it as being easy, I did however give it the benefit of the doubt because it was my first time trying the genre and the series for that matter, but I just couldn't get into it at all!

Disgaea looks hard too! I just want something user-friendly for the casual if it is even possible for this genre

You really fount FFT too hard? Hmm.

You should try Jeanne D'Arc - Same style, but much simpler. Pretty much grind free and your troops/classes are laid out for you so you don't have to worry about that.

FFT IS hard, in some parts. Specially during the beginning, some battles against Gafgarion and in the battle against Wiegraf. Though by the end you have the choice to make it a cakewalk by using Orlandu, if you want

Yea, it can be tough at parts, but I managed all right through it and the only SRPG games I played were the Advanced Wars games on GBA. I guess I am better then I thought =)

Final Fantasy Tactics is not difficult.  Essentially it can be as easy or as hard as you want it to be.  There are enough "win button" abilities/combinations to where you can easily get one early enough to make the whole game a cakewalk.  My favorite was two-swords and speak break.  Enemies stopped getting turns.  The final boss didn't get 2 turns against me and I don't even remember it getting one.

Disgaea is easier than Final Fantasy Tactics overall, but there's no "win button" in Disgaea that will let you walk over everything with ease so if you're used to cheesing your way through FFT then you will find Disgaea much harder.  In Disgaea, it's just a matter of gaining levels and getting better equipment.  You can also do the main storylines with ease without resorting to re-incarnation or any other stuff really.

There is no level cap in Disgaea and tons and tons of optional stuff to do so with grinding it is not hard. However grinding itself can be a pain.

9999.

ok so I agree level cap in Disgaea is at 9999 which pretty much means infinity as you can beat the game at level 300 or so.

Each Disgaea game in the series seems to be making it easier to get to 9999.

Disgaea 2 and 3 are easily beaten at sub 100 levels.  It's been so long since I played the original I don't remember what level I was when I beat it.

I beat it at lv 80 or so, so it's not much different

I haven't beaten it, I seem to remember there were NPC characters in the castle at around level 300
