What Xxain said.
I humbly bow towards Fumito Ueda, his genius and vision.
People are getting the wrong idea here. I know this is my first post and all, but Ueda never made the assumptions or the statements that his game influenced Super Mario Galaxy. He is simply stating that he does not see the influence, and states that the gamers who said so are incorrect.
Ueda is allowed to say Super Mario Galaxy did not impress him, just like you are allowed to say SoTC did not impress you.
These games are far too different to evaluate. Super Mario Galaxy is a venture into pure game play bliss, no sane person will tell you that it is not a marvel in game play, level design, and over all fun. The appearance is charming, whimsical and beautiful all at the same time. A wonderful game.
GTA4 is a great game too, I personally believe it did not live up to the expectations that I had hoped to experience from playing the other GTA games, but that does not in any way or form make the game bad. Also, GTA4 innovated nothing, it is basically the exactly same game with a slightly different storyline and updated graphics. If you deny that, you simply did not play the game. Man gets into city for some reason, shit goes wrong, steal cars complete quests, its the same as every other GTA game. And it's good for that reason.
Ueda's games are something special in the gaming world, and I'm sure you can all agree on that. They are both incredibly distinct games, with virtually nothing in existence in the media to compare to, so, obviously, when someone makes a completely ludicrous statement such as this, Ueda is forced to check it out. Come on? Miyamoto, the father of gaming needing inspiration? It's crazy, and that's basically what Ueda is saying.
Ueda's games are unmatched, they are an emotional experience that detracts you from your physical world and plays with your emotions. They draw the game play, the struggle, the atmosphere from the deep emotion that is cast onto the character through the desolation or hopelessness that is injected into the players mind (I will not spoil the two games as I do not see any reason too.. if you have played them you understand).
Ueda's games are not for everyone, so comparing sales is stupid and childish. I know we are on vgchartz and that is the point of the website, but I'd like to think the user base was intelligent enough to understand that comparing sales of a game like Mario to Ueda's games is grounds for lunacy.
Ico, and Shadow of the Collosus were both commercial successes, and they touched many people. The Last Guardian, will also be a commercial success, and it will be a game that very well may be, just like its predecessors, be unmatched for that console generation. Appreciate them for what they are, like it or not, but do not put words into the mans mouth and lets stop arguing over who makes the better games or who's games sells more... that wasn't the point of the thread.
