I know it's over and done with but when I look back on it, GTA 4 was the worst GTA game out of the modern day GTAs (after part 3), they took out so many of the good RPG features from San Andreas, even the property purchases which made the game so fun! The story and everything was cool, but the game just didn't feel much like a GTA game and thus it disappointed many. I honestly don't know why it got it's 10 ratings on IGN and Gamespot...don't get me wrong, it's a good game, but there were more deserving winners that year, most notably Metal Gear Solid 4, Gears of War 2, Little Big Planet, Fallout 3, and even Left 4 Dead which I thought was better. Do you folks here agree?

No, super mario galaxy did. And otherwise super smash bros brawl.

Both of which were a lot better.

GTA 4 is definitely overrated. So is Smash Brothers. Sorry. Galaxy is awesome.

yeah, I am surprised that Super Mario Galaxy didn't win GotY 2008. It will always be a mystery

I'm reading a couple of posts in this thread, and I'm wondering if it came to anyone's mind that Super Mario Galaxy came out in 2007 and won Game of the Year in that year.

Grand Theft Auto IV got the best ratings of any game that year (for whatever reason), and if it didn't get game of the year, critics and reviewers would have looked like hypocrites. I think it was a great game, deserving of scores in the low 90s. However, not GOTY.

This thread could have been relevant in 2008.

And many site gave many different games GOTY awards. And it's still an excellent game.

Does it? Hell no, it never deserved it. I'm not going to say what did deserve it, since that's quite subjective. I'd probably give it to Wii Fit, Mario Kart Wii, or LittleBigPlanet, for getting people playing things differently. MGS4 I would also strongly say no to because it's supposed to be GAME of the year, not MOVIE of the year...
