Forums - Gaming - Analysis: X360 underachieving and why it won't get a price-cut in 2009

^No, ZOMG!!! ZOMG!! $280 and higher than the Wii was not mass-market price!! ZOMG!!!

Didn't you read about the ideal market price for consoles back in 2007?? That's exactly where the Xbox is since Sept 04 2008!!! And it's performing just a little better than that expensive black blu-ray player which by the time it gets to $200 it will have outsold the 360 for several years despite being priced significantly higher!!! ZOMG!!!! ZOMG!!!!

^ Mass market price = price where elasticity = ~-1 = not the $275 average sale price its currently at.

Tease.

^it's $200 dude, lol so much denial. The truth is people aren't buying the 360 more because they don't think IT"S WORTH THE PRICE, just the same people are not buying more PS3 because they don't think $400 or $500 bundles are worth it. Microsoft will have to offer a cheaper model that includes everything the current Pro model offers if they want to counter $100 PS3 price cut. $200 Pro model? You think that's possible? well, yes they can do it, but they would've totally failed to capitalize at the current price, they wouldn't end up making much money. Now considering there's a PS3 at $300 , 80GB Blu-ray, free online (whatever the quality), next to a $150 Xbox Arcade, or a $200 Pro model, where do you think the consumer sees more value huh? It's not the same difference of entry prices $200 versus $400. Just Final Fantasy XIII alone will eat the Xbox alive in WW sales by the end of the year. I really REALLY hope MS cuts the price!! I'm praying for it, it will be their waterloo.

^ Denial of what? At least I use some factional basis rather than randomly pulling a number out of my butt.

I hope you realise that during Christmas sales shift in favour of the Americas and price becomes the key factor as Arcades are bought as gifts etc. This is why the Xbox 360 has always done relatively better than the PS3 during that quarter.

Tease.

^Denial about the mass market price the Xbox has dude, don't play dumb. Yeah, I hope they sell all they can at $150 and $200 you say? They won't top 12 million this year even if they cut it to that.

I agree with you as a fellow PS3 fanboy but please stop the constant rebuttals. This thread is going nowhere.

That's just sad...  After all these pages of trying to appear unbiased you show your true colors...

Since the 360 is the only console that it up YoY then it's got to be the most ignorant statement ever to say that it's underachieving relative to any reasonable set of expectations.  You could set ridiculous criteria by which the 360 is a failure (which it seems you have) but remember that if the 360 is doing poorly then everything else is doing much worse

^alright, I knew that from the beginning anyway. I'll sure be back here in a year's time. Until then.

so the 360 being 0.5mil up this year means it wont reach 1mil above last years total so will be a failure.

The PS3 being almost 1 mil down doesn't have to sell over 1 mil more than last year as well?
I guess not or then the PS3 would be an even bigger failure.

Only a price cut can save it now but we know how PS fanboys hate price cuts.
