kind of what im saying is this: ill let the private sector alone in terms of regulation, as long as they are doing whats best for there customers, if they stop doing that, then the government should step in and at the very least warn them, if neccessary, then yes i belive the government should regulate them.

@SciFiBoy: I don't think the government intervention was to protect savers' money, that's what deposit insurance is for (even when a bank goes bust, there's a bank fund to use as insurance).

The point of saving the banks was (allegedly) to keep mortgages, business and personal loans going, as many people and businesses depend on those to keep spending money. Without those people and businesses spending money, the economy would suffer (which would be a good thing overall, as it would solve the problem at once, but of course governments won't let that happen).

ok, well, if the mortgages or loans are unpayable, then the government should stop people taking them out in future (in conjuction with the private sector of course). but as some have already been taken out, we should help them untill they have paid thoose loans off, once they have done so, go back to the system of only giving loans in emergencys (no-one should have to be left on the street for instance) or to people who can pay them back.

But when you use fireworks you attack the sky which the sky doesn't like
