Forums - Microsoft - The ZuneHD to be integrated with 360 somehow, but is the Zunehd 'Pink'?

http://www.fool.com/investing/value/2009/04/15/stop-laughing-at-the-zune-apple.aspx

I'm revisiting this story because theres more recent talk about a MS smartphone codenamed 'pink'. This story seemed to speculate that the zune HD will have a smartphone iteration, perhaps similar to the Iphone and Ipod Touch.

Is the 'pink' an entirely different smartphone by MS besides maybe making the zunehd a smartphone, or are the 'pink' and zunehd the same device?

However can't help but be excited that the zunehd could possibly be integrated with NXE and play 360 games. Perhaps even make the 360 downloadble game service mobile. Download new games into your 360 from your ZUNEHD!!!

Last time I checked dreaming is still legal and free.

Rumors Facts we know to be true.

  • Built-in HD Radio receiver.
  • OLED touch screen interface with 16:9 widescreen format display (480×272 resolution / 3.3 inch screen).
  • HD-compatible output through an optional HDMI dock.
  • Full-screen Internet browser optimized for multitouch with "tap to zoom technology, built-in accelerometer, and touch screen QWERTY keyboard."
  • Wi-Fi enabled.
  • Microsoft "teaser" page at http://www.zune.net/zunehd
  • No Xbox Live games integration.

Rumors we have no official word on - but are "leaning" towards being true.

Rumors we still have no official word on (but are losing their luster)

Stuff nobody is talking about.

  • What does it have that Zune HD on the Xbox doesn't have - and vice versa.
  • Price.
  • Hard drive options?
  • Does it bring a new version of Zune Pass?

No Xbox Live games integration.  Sorry.  The phone thing is still up in the air, but I am unfamiliar with the 'pink' project.

@jagged sac

Bummer about the games but device still sounds quite astounding.

The memory: I thought it was confirmed it would have a 32gb SD drive. I can't find the site, never bookmarked. Am furiosuly looking for it though.

My idea of possibly allowing the zuneHD (as part of the integration with the 360) to use the 360's upcoming digital distribution service through some type of native app I think is still game. Similar to the Iphone and the directv recording functionality.

How great would it be to buy a game through your zunehd from work and it being downloaded into your 360 by the time you get home ready to play.

So seamless and convinient.

Here's a link to my 'pink' thread:

It also contains a link for the actual story.

That looks great.

@dclKeel: I am very surprised that Community Games would not be supported for Zune through Live as the current Zunes work with the XNA framework. As far as the Zune service on Live, I am not even sure that they will still have downloadable content. Everything might be streamed. I am just speculating though. The Zune Marketplace from the Zune pc software will still have downloadable videos. In which case, you could stream these through the 360.

I will read about 'pink' after I get off of work.

@jaggedsac

Well the digital distribution service the 360 is debuting in late august I believe is what I was refering to. Maybe the Zune can use it to activate the download of a game into the 360 not the zune itself. I'm speculating windows media center will get revamped also and make it possible to download new games into your 360 from a pc.

The zune might even be able to do it from the browser as well. MS has a chance to provide some incredible integration with these devices when combined with proper software.

If they made a Zune HD that could play XBLA games, I would buy it instantaneously.
Otherwise I will stick with my old Joy Division Zune.

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick

With the tegra chipset inside it, why don't they use a Zune version of the NXE(NZE?) instead of the list based affair they have at the moment?

The lack of full Xbox intergration with Live is really too bad.
